Lancaster Architects is a boutique architecture firm founded in 2009 in Washington, DC. We focus on mixed-use redevelopment of underutilized buildings. Our specialty is enhancing the strategic value of space,

Whether it is an office for a fast-growing company, or repositioning a historic building for a new purpose. The firm specializes in creating meaningful and dynamic spaces that blend the individual experience with community, and functionality with unexpected moments of beauty. Lancaster Architects approaches every project like a complex puzzle, listens deeply to their clients’ needs, uncovers fresh ideas, and solves for the human experience.

Since its inception, the firm has successfully established long-term relationships and trusted partnerships with investor-owners and private equity groups, providing strategic services that are geared towards owners and tenant’s needs alike.

Amy Lancaster established Lancaster Architects after 20 years at award-winning real estate and architectural firms. On that strong foundation, she built a practice that celebrates the stories and missions of spaces through design. From a high-tech exhibition space in a historic landmark in Washington, DC, to the first office space for a fast-growing startup, the firm is recognized for its collaborative engagement with clients and for designs that have enduring impact for their long-term goals.

Hi… I’m Amy, Lead Architect & Owner

A little bit about me… Before starting Lancaster Architects, I worked at OTJ Architects and Washington Real Estate Investment Trust. My work includes commercial spaces, multimedia conferencing centers, performing arts centers, and innovative exhibition design. At STUDIOS Architecture, I worked on the construction administration of a 700,000 sf multifamily development in Virginia.

My husband and I live on Capitol Hill with our beautiful daughters.

Why we are different

  • We thrive on building long-term relationships with our clients, designing for our clients’ growth in mind. We are a trusted partner and advisor for investor-owners and private equity groups, helping them to re-envision the building, identify cost effective solutions, and outperform financial expectations.

  • We take a holistic approach to design. We not only design spaces for human experience, but also explore the strategic value of space

  • We enjoy working on underutilized or historic buildings – many of them with structural issues -and transforming them into jewels that activate the community.

  • We have built deep working relationships with public and private jurisdictional authorities, such as planning entities, zoning offices, and historic review boards. We are invested in guiding you through these elements that other firms typically don’t handle.
